Q.	How long does it take to assemble a Gel Fireplace and what tools are needed?
A.	Depending on the model, assembly takes from 5 minutes to 1 hour. The only tool required is a Phillips screwdriver.

Q.	Can a Gel Fireplace be placed on carpet?
A.	Yes, there is no problem in placing a Gel Fireplace on carpet or on any other stable floor. There are no sparks or escaping embers to worry about.

Q.	By using a Gel Fireplace will my walls or ceiling discolour?
A.	No, Sunjel does not emit any smoke or soot so walls and ceilings will not discolour.

Q.	Does a Gel Fireplace set off smoke alarms?
A.	No, Sunjel does not produce any smoke.

Q.	How many canisters does a Gel Fireplace use at a time?
A.	Up to 3 Canisters are used for maximum heat output. One or two cans are used if you just want to create a warm atmosphere to the room or need less heat.

Q.	How much heat does a Gel Fireplace produce?
A.	When using 3 cans of Sunjel, the output is 2.6kw (9000 btu's), which is equivalent to a 1hp air conditioner.

Q.	What is Sunjel made from?
A.	Sunjel is made from isopropyl alcohol (commonly known as rubbing alcohol) derived from sugarcane and corn. It also has added water, organic thickeners and sea salt. All ingredients are natural, renewable products and biodegradable. No MIBK (methyl Isobuytl Ketone), petroleum or fossil fuel products are used.

Q.	Is Sunjel safe to use indoors?
A.	Yes, Sunjel has been extensively tested and has the highest approval for indoor use.

What does Sunjel emit?

Carbon dioxide (the air we exhale) and water vapours and
a minute amount of carbon monoxide of . . . . . 1.5 ppm (parts per million)

Q.	How do I light Sunjel?
A.	Remove label from Sunjel canister, give the canister a little shake and use a long match or BBQ lighter to touch the flame to the gel. There is no sudden flare up. It takes approximately 30 seconds for the full 20cm (8") brilliant golden/orange flame to appear.

Q.	Does Sunjel have a smell?
A.	Sunjel does not emit a foul smell. A scented candle smell is detected by some.

Q.	How long does the gel last?
A.	Each canister of gel lasts from 2½ to 3 hours, depending on room humidity.

Q.	Can the gel be extinguished earlier?
A.	Yes, depending on the model, flames are extinguished by using (a) 'flame snuffer', a (b) 'manual shut off lever', or (c) a slide lever to close the fuel box holder. When canisters are cool, lids should be replaced securely to prevent any alcohol evaporation and any remaining gel can be relit another time.

Q.	What would be the most important safety precautions to follow?
A.	As with any naked flame, utmost care and consideration should always be used, especially if children or inquisitive pets are present.
	Gel Fireplaces should:- be kept clean of any accidental spills of gel. be extinguished should you need to leave your premises. not be moved when lit or when the gel still is still warm. be kept away from flammables such as curtains, cushions & plants etc., should not be leaned on especially when in flame. should not have glasses of beverage placed on the mantle, especially alcoholic drinks.

Q.	What maintenance is involved in owning a Gel Fireplace?
A.	Apart from dusting the mantle and making sure the fuel holder box is clean, there isn't any!

Q.	Are Gel Fireplaces safe?
A.	When safety measures are followed, there is no danger in using a Gel Fireplace.

Q.	Are Gelburners Safe?
A.	When safety measures are followed, there is no danger in using a Gelburner. As with any naked flame whether it be a Gel Fireplace, candle, campfire or Gelburner, utmost care and consideration should be always be used, especially if children or inquisitive pets are present.

Where can I place my Gelburner?

Indoor Gelburners can be placed on a level table top or stand which is non-flammable. Slate tiles are an ideal base to use. Taller Gelburners can be placed on tiled flooring in an unused corner of the room, away from people traffic.
They can also be placed in an unused fireplace or in a custom built alcove.*

Outdoor Gelburners can be placed in outdoor entertaining areas on a suitable flooring such as tiles, slate, paving or concrete.

Gelburners should not be placed where they can be easily knocked over or bumped into by guests and ideally gelburners should be positioned WELL OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS altogether.

Q	Will walls or ceilings discolour when using a Gelburner?
A.	Sunjel does not produce any smoke or soot so there is no discolouration of areas surrounding a Gelburner.

Q.	Will smoke alarms be set off by using a gelburner?
A.	No, Sunjel does not produce any smoke.

A.	Sunjel Red Indoor lasts up to 3 hours, depending on room humidity. Sunjel Citronella which is for outdoor use only has a slightly thicker consistency and lasts a little longer.

Q.	Can the Gel be extinguished at any time?
A.	Yes, by using the lid of the Gelburner which acts as a snuffer, flames are extinguished immediately. When canisters are cool, lids of Sunjel should be replaced securely to prevent any alcohol evaporation and any remaining gel can be relit another time.

Q.	Does Sunjel have a smell?
A.	Sunjel Red Indoor does not emit any foul smell whatsoever when burning, although a scented candle' fragrance is detected by some. Sunjel Citronella has a faint lemon fragrance.

Q.	How do I look after my Gelburner?
A.	This varies with the type of Gelburner, but generally, keeping the canister holder free of any spills is all that is necessary. The exterior of all Gelburners can be wiped down with a damp cloth.
